Want to join? Open House April 6th and 9th!!

The ladies at CNY Roller Derby have been kind enough to open their next round of new skater training classes to prospective Quadfathers too.  Please see here for info:
http://cnyrollerderby.blogspot.com/2011/03/want-to-join-2011-recruitment-starts.html

There will be Quadfathers reps on hand for the meet and greet dates and for most of the new skater training. Please drop us a line if you plan to attend info@quadfathers.com

NEW INFO ADDED:
We are opening the doors for interested new recruits to the world of men's roller derby. No skating experience is necessary. Come meet some of the guys and get some info, or throw on some skates and loaner pads and give it a try in a no-pressure environment.
The ladies of CNYRD have been kind enough to allow our interested new guys who are in need of training to attend their upcoming new skater classes, which will be Wednesdays 7-10p and Saturdays 10a-12p from April-July. We can go over costs and expectations at the open house.
Got skating experience already? Come get evaluated and you might be able to jump right into regular practices.
Regular Quadfathers practices are Saturdays 12-3pm, with the possibility of a soon-to-be-announced weeknight coming up.

The open house events are FREE.

The open houses are:
Wednesday April 6th 7-10pm
Saturday April 9th 10a-12p

please click on these links to the facebook events and let us know you're coming!

...and stick around after the Saturday time and watch a men's practice.
...and stick around a bit later than that for CNYRD's first friends and family intraleague bout of the year, Utica Clubbers vs Rome Wreckers for a measly $3 suggested donation.

3/13/2011 Bout @ Burlington recap

On Sunday March 13th, The Quadfathers took to the road for a closed door bout with the Burlington Bombers men's roller derby team. Skating were:

WOO #96 (C)
grambo #37
Die-lon  #315
Blackjack #21
Jiffy  #17
Zach  #29
Raging Homo  #28
Fliyn' Phil  #5
Wildstyle  #215
Doom Buggy  #999
Peach  #27

The Quadfathers were coached by Slay West, assisted by Gutshot (both of CNY Roller Derby)

Special thanks to Itty Bitty Bastard and Cat Scratch Beater (also both of CNY Roller Derby) for helping us out with our impromptu merch table.

The event was run as a fully staffed normal bout, and was held at the Sports and Fitness Edge, a multi-use sports facility in South Burlington which also sponsors the Bomb Quads league. As one of the Bombers guys put it, referring to the rubberized athletic floor for roller skating, "It sucks the soul out of you!", and he was 100% correct. While juking and fast lateral movement was a pleasure, any endurance we thought we had going in was quickly zapped out of us, legs first:)

The Bombers pulled out to an early lead for the first few jams as we got our bearings and developed some strategy.

At the half the score was still tight, with the Quadfathers only leading by around 14 points.
The second half started with 3 Quadfathers players already having accrued 3 minors each, and so Slay West used some strategic poodleing in order to get penalties cleared without suffering huge losses to short lineups. The Quadfathers quickly pulled out another 30 points into the lead, and then stayed well in the lead for the rest of the game. The final score was 156-64.

Big thanks are due to the Bomb Quads’ ref and NSO crew for recruiting all kinds of help to fill out the staff for this scrimmage. There were officials from the Bomb Quads, GMDD (good seeing you again Starslayer!), Plattsburgh, Central VT, and New Hampshire (someone correct if we’re wrong or missing anyone, please!). Officiating for a bunch of loudmouth guys who also ref is always a challenge, and these girls and guys truly did a good job of holding it together and keeping things under control.

We were also covered on the local news, thanks to Annie Cockledeux of GMDD. Thanks Annie! You can see the recap here.

We all had a wonderful time and the Bombers were great hosts. We hope to face them again this season and with any luck we can convince them to come down to Utica to fill our 8/13 home double header with CNY taking on GMDD…..NY vs VT battle royale!

We will add photo links from the scrimmage as soon as they become available. (Hint hint, post em if ya got em folks!)

EDIT 4/4/2011: Here's a link to some awesome video of the scrimmage.
