Fire: 2/19 Scrimmage Cancelled

Probably obvious by now from the (highly appreciated) derby community coverage, but Sunday's open scrimmage in cancelled due to a fire which destroyed our venue, and a lot of equipment along with it. Practices are on hold for right now. To be clear, this was our practice venue, not the arena in Rome NY where our season is planned. All bouts are still on!

The first link below has a donation button to paypal if you'd like to help. The Quadfathers' losses were minimal in comparison and we'll be OK as soon as we find new practice space. CNY lost a lot more of their belongings, though, and much of it were items that The Quadfathers benefited from regularly too. If you'd like to earmark a donation to us, we appreciate the support, just leave it in the comments section in paypal.

The surrounding leagues and rinks have been absolutely amazing in terms of offering to have us as guests and as sub-letters in their spaces, and we are tracking down leads in the Utica area like crazy to keep skating ASAP. If you know of any leads on spaces that would have us, at least until early April when we can get back into our summer space, please email info@cnyrollerderby.com

Probably the biggest loss on CNY's end was their stock of loaner gear for new skaters. Many leagues and individuals have contacted us to ask where they can send used gear with some life still in it to help replace. If you have gear that would still be OK for new skaters to take out on loan (skates, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmets, extra wheels, bearings, a bearing press, big tupperware bins, practice pinnies, whiteboards, clipboards, etc etc) then by all means mail it to us:

Last Open Scrimmage, Sunday Feb 19th

The Quadfathers will be hosting our last off-season co-ed open scrimmage on Sunday Feb 19th

We've had a great turn out for Dec 18th and Jan 22nd, and everyone has had a really fun time.

The next date will be run the same, with teams split depending on numbers. $5 per skater admission fee for skaters; refs and NSO's are free (and much appreciated!).

Sunday Feb 19th- arrive as early as 12, start warming up at 1pm, announcements and scrimmages start at 1:30. We can skate until 4pm. We usually do 3X 30 min periods with some open skating at the end.

All skaters who have passed WFTDA/MRDA minimum skills assessments are welcome to participate. All skaters must be comfortable in a co-ed scrimmage environment. Everyone needs one black and one white shirt with at least their player number on it. Our floor is Mateflex sports tile, very similar to SportCourt. The colder it is, the slicker our floor gets. We recommend hybrid/softer wheels.

The venue is called 'SportsPlx' and is located at:
496 French Rd Utica NY 13502

It is just behind the train/hobby shop. When you pull in, please DO NOT PARK near the Train/Hobby shop. If we have the back parking lot open, pull in there. If not, please park along the outsides of the SportsPlx building and along the fence. Park other skaters in if you have to, we dont want anyone's cars to get towed.

The burrito place next door, Burrito Jonz, has agreed to provide a number of dishes at $5 per meal prices for us afterwards. We will have menus available, or click the link to their website to see what they've got for specials etc

Make your travel plans now! On Saturday and Sunday August 18th and 19th 2012, The Quadfathers will host "The Mohawk Valley Cup", the first ever regular season all-male MRDA Regulation roller derby tournament!
There's not even a women's expo bout- this is ALL male roller derby.

The event will be held at JFK Arena at 500 West Embargo St, Rome NY 13440.

It will feature 8 men's roller derby teams. Bouts will start at 9am both days, and each team is guaranteed 3 MRDA Regulation bouts.
Spectator tickets will be $10 per day or $17 for a weekend pass.
There will be trophies and medals for 1st-3rd place teams. The MVP and all tourny team awards will be sponsored by Atom Wheels.

The Tournament Head Referree for this event will be Miss Trial, and Tournament Head NSO will be Danger Prone Daphne. Officials interested in officiating this event can use the form here to apply.

Next Open Scrimmage- 1/22/2012

After the great time we had on at the December 18th open scrimmage, we've decided to host another in January.

Besides the Quadfathers and CNY, we had skaters from Albany All-Stars, Capital District Trauma Authority, Hellions of Troy, Oz Rollergirls, Watertown Roller Derby, ROC City, Pioneer Valley, and Garden State. Big thanks to our refs and NSO's who came out from all of these leagues (plus our home folks) too! Overall it was a great experience. We split 36 skaters into 3 teams of 12 and each team played two 30 minute halves against both other teams. Afterwards anyone that wanted to keep playing played another 30 minute half.

Co-ed Scrimmage Dec 18th!

To break up the monotony of the off-season and have some fun, The Quadfathers will be hosting a co-ed scrimmage on Sunday Dec 18th from 1-4pm. Registration is open to anyone who has passed their WFTDA/MRDA skater minimum skills testing, has skating insurance, and has competed previously. This will be a co-ed scrimmage, so all participants must be comfortable with a co-ed setting and have the ability to restrain themselves from being a douchebag :)
All safety gear must be worn at all times when skates are on feet, no exceptions. No spectators (this means anyone not there to actively participate as a skater or official) are allowed without prior approval.

The cost of the scrimmage will be $5 per skater to help us cover venue rental costs. Money will be collected at the door upon arrival. Signups are being done online via this google form. If we get to 28 skaters, we will wait list the remaining applicants until/if we get to 40 to make 4 teams and 2 full length scrimmages.

Referees and NSO's are also encouraged to apply via the same form to come help out. There is no cost for refs and NSO's.

Its very easy on and off from NY Routes 12/8/5. The venue has a Mateflex floor (similar to SportCourt). Although many people are fine on 90-95 hardness wheels, many of us prefer hybrids and are OK on them.

Right next door is a great burrito place called 'Burrito Jonz' and a bar called the Black Cat. We are working on some food and drink specials for afterward, but either way, we plan to get together after the scrimmage for food and drinks.

On Saturday 9/17/2011, The Quadfathers are hitting the road with our friends the Central New York Roller Derby All-Stars and heading to Northampton, MA for a very much anticipated double header. The Quadfathers will take on the #5 ranked PVRD Dirty Dozen in a MRDA sanctioned bout, and the CNY All- Stars will take on PVRD's Western Mass Destruction in "The Valley vs Central New York"

Doors open at 5 pm, Game Starts at 6 pm. $10 at the door. Kids 12 and under $5 with paying adult. Kids 6 and under free with paying adult. Online for $8 advance at brownpapertickets.

Friday Sept 9th: Recruitment and Fundraiser Open Skate in Syracuse!!!

This has been a long time in the making - we have quite a few guys from Syracuse and other points West that have skated with the Quadfathers, and we've been saying forever that we would hold a recruitment event in that area to show some of the local guys what we have to offer, and hopefully get some new skaters ready over the winter for Spring 2012 competitions.

Thanks to Black Mamba Skate Park, we are finally making this happen. On Friday Sept 9th from 6pm-10pm, Black Mamba will host The Quadfathers for a recruitment and fundraising open skate event. We will have recruitment info on hand for any guys interested in joining, along with team merch for sale, and even some giveaways.
This is also a time to come SKATE WITH US! We will be in game shirts, fully geared up, and having some FUN on the floor. So everyone is invited and encouraged to come skate with us, say hi, talk derby, ask questions......we are excited to present ourselves as a team to the Syracuse area.
Black Mamba has generously agreed to donate $3 of each person's skating fees that night to the team, and this money will go directly to defraying teh costs of travel for the Quadfathers to attend the Spring Roll tournament in IN next year. So come have some fun and help support men's derby at the same time!

Saturday 8/20/2011, The Quadfathers vs the CT Death Quads in Yonkers

Almost a year ago exactly, The Quadfathers squared off against the CT Death Quads in our first full length home bout. CTDQ won that one 122-96. Since that time, both teams have come a long way, both having been accepted in MRDA and upping their play considerably. Expect this to be a hard fought battle for both teams. With a roster of 10 for the Quadfathers vs the DQ's full 14 bench,this will be an endurance and strategy test for the Quadfathers for sure.

This bout is a double header being hosted by the ladies of Suburbia Roller Derby in Yonkers. The girls bout directly following us is SRD's home season championships between the Country Clubbers and the Botoxic Avengers. Doors open at 5pm, men's bout starts at 6pm.

Bout Recap: 8/13/2011 vs Burlington Bomb Quads

On Saturday 8/13/2011 The Quadfathers hosted The Bomb Quads from Burlington VT at JFK Arena in Rome NY. This was the last home bout of the 2011 season, and the Quadfathers certainly tried their best to give the fans a show.

The Quadfathers started out slow falling behind early 11-5 in the first three jams as each team seemed to be feeling each other out for weaknesses. Grambo stepped up to the jammer line in the 4th jam and put up a big 10-0 score that got the ball rolling for the home town boys. Burlington jammer Wraith tied the game in the next jam at 15 all. After that the Quadfathers slowly pulled away and by halftime had a 66-32 lead.
Coming out for the second half the Quadfathers continued to build their lead. They started out the half by going on a 53-0 run in the first ten jams building their lead to 119-32. By the final whistle the Quadfathers walked away with a 162-67 victory.

The Quadfathers put up some pretty impressive stats in the second half, shutting out the Bomb Quads in 17 of 23 jams. They held the visitors to 10 no passes as well while outscoring them 96-35. This is the second game in a row that the Quadfathers have put in a strong second half performance. In the last two home games this season the Quadfathers have outscored their opponents 173-48 in the second half.

Missing from the normal Quadfathers roster for this game were familiar jammers Peach and Ball Zach. With their absence jammer duties fell to Wildstyle and Grambo who both put up career high numbers scoring 79 and 56 respectively. Other game highs were turned in by Die-Lon with a 5.75 points per jam average, WOO with a +47 Pivot +/- ratio and Bobby Brady with a +65 Blocker +/- ratio. The Bomb Quads were lead by Uhoh Uhno with 24 points.

MVPs for the night were Wildstyle of the Quadfathers and Wraith for the visitors.

We couldn’t have put this whole thing together without all the zebras and NSO's who volunteered their time. The refs included:

Bout Recap: 7/30/2011 vs Capital District Trauma Authority

On Saturday 7/30/2011 The Quadfathers hosted Albany area's Capital District Trauma Authority (CDTA) at JFK Arena in Rome NY. This bout was the much anticipated rematch of the April 2nd 2011 bout of the same teams at the Washington Ave Armory in Albany in which CDTA won 110-77 in their first public bout. The Quadfathers had been working hard in preparation for this rematch and it showed. Coached by Slay West and Mean Squeak, the Quadfathers deployed a noticeable change in teamwork and defensive strategy that proved very difficult for the CDTA jammers.

We couldnt have put this whole thing together without all the zebras and NSO's, so a big thank you to all of you. Officiating the bout were some familiar faces from nearby places:

Special thanks also to Ida Feltersnatch and Eloda Sarcasm for announcing this bout- they did an amazing job and kept it humorous and cool even when the sound system was toppling around them (literally! read on...)

The first half was a very close, hard fought battle between the two teams, with 5 lead changes, disputed ref calls, and tensions high. CDTA came into the game riding a 2 game win streak looking to make it three. They jumped out to a quick nine point lead in the first 3 jams for the largest lead of the first half. At the half, it was CDTA 49 to Quadfathers 44. The Quadfathers came out of the locker room for the second half with a renewed focus and it showed. They Quadfathers took back the lead in the second jam with a 10 point jam by Die-Lon but CDTA answered right back 2 jams later with a 8 point jam by Jonny Malice to bring the score to 58-57 in favor of the home team. The Quadfathers then went on a 45 point run holding the visiting team scorless until the 17th jam. In the 17th CDTA star jammer Up End Atom tried to spark some life into the vistors scoring a quick 5 points and calling it. The home town team quickly answered back closing out the game putting up a grand slam in each of the last three jams.

The Quads put up some pretty impressive stats in the second half, shutting out CDTA in 18 out of 20 jams. They also gained lead jammer status 16 out of 20 jams. Overall scoring in the second half was Quads 77- CDTA 13. The final score was Quadfathers 121-CDTA 62.

The crowd was wowed and cheering mutliple times for huge hits from both teams, sending skaters flying into the barriers, the crowd, and the photographers. A first half shoulder injury to Peach #27 of the QF's had the Quads facing a thinning jammer lineup for the second half but Peach pushed through it and jammed through the rest of the game. At one point in the second half Roarshock #8i8 of CDTA was sent flying off of turn 3 directly into the sound system / DJ table and sent most of the system crashing to the floor around him....luckily, nothing actually hit Roarshock and to everyone's delight the announcers' mics continued to work the whole time, and nothing was damaged (sigh of relief!). A second half injury to the knee of Johnny Rebel #904 of CDTA on turn one had the arena silent for a few minutes as EMT's attended. We've been told Johnny is OK.

By the end of the night the Quadfathers had 4 jammers with 20+ plus points lead by Peach with 35. CDTA's leading scorer was #11 Jonny Malice with 23 points.

MVP's were awarded to Up End Atom #9090 of CDTA and Bobby Brady #8 of the QF's.

The Quadfathers would like to especially thank CNY Roller Derby for allowing us the chance to host men's derby bouts in conjunction with their 2011 season. CNY's support has been invaluable to the growth and stability of our league over the past two years, and we are finally (hopefully) giving something back by putting on some very crowd pleasing shows for our common fans! We would also like to thank the fans who came out and supported us. We look forward to seeing all of you at our next bout.

July 30th: Quadfathers vs Capital District Tauma Authority

Join us at JFK Arena on Saturday July 30th for the much anticipated re-match of The Quadfathers vs. the Capital District Trauma Authority!

In our last bout on April 2nd in Albany, we lost to this team 110-77. You can read the recap here. With lineup changes, lots of practice, and finally obtaining a floor fit for derby, we feel we have a good chance to get even and win this one, so please come show your support to the local boys in Orange!

This is a double header event, and the men's game will be played first, starting at 5:30pm. The women's portion is the CNY Roller Derby home team season chamionship game between the Blue Collar Betties and the Utica Clubbers.

Change in Practice Day/Time

Hello all- We are taking this weekend off for Memorial Day (with the added bonus of helping CNY Roller Derby set up their brand new SkateCourt floor which we will be benefitting greatly from!), and starting next weekend (so starting Sunday June 5th), we're switching practices to Sundays at 1:30pm.

As always, scrimmage ready skaters from other leagues are welcome, just shoot us an email in advance at info@quadfathers.com You must have full gear and have passed WFTDA minimum skills assesments with your home league to participate, but we're ok with people coming to get extra skate time on the outside of the track too.

5/7/2011 Bout Recap: NY Shock Exchange

A short-staffed but dedicated roster of Quadfathers traveled to Long Island on Saturday to take on the undefeated and defending MDRA/MDC national champions, the New York Shock Exchange. This was a very important bout for New York Mens Roller Derby, as this was the first bout in which the national champions faced off against another New York State team.

Skating with only 9 members, the Quadfathers fell behind early and never were able to gain any momentum. The first jam set the tone for the bout as NYSE’s jammer Jonathan R racked up 25 points to zero for the Quadfathers. The next jam gave promise for the Quadfathers, as Peach scored one point for the visitors and the pack held NYSE jammer Rinkworm to one point making it 26-1. Unfortunately, this was the last point the Quadfathers in the first half. The Shock Exchange continued to pile on the points resulting in a 207-1 lead at the half.

The 2nd half mirrored the first half as Shock Exchange Jammer Ronnie Mako reeled off 19 points in the first jam of the final period. The Shock Exchange shut-out continued until the 24th jam of the bout, when Grambo put the Quadfathers back into the score column with a 4 point jam. Unfortunately, this was the last time the Quadfathers were able to get on the scoreboard.

During the second half Die-lon fouled out, Raging Homo was injured with a bloody nose, Peach was injured with a wrist guard to the right eye, and for a time the Quadfathers were skating with a total roster of 6. Fatigue due to being shorthanded on the bench, along with injuries and 13 trips to the penalty box in the 2nd half helped lead to a final score of 382-5, in favor of NYSE. Picking up MVP awards were Widstyle for the Quadfathers and Maulin’ Brando for the NYSE.

While the final score may seem excessive at first, the Quadfathers never gave up and played hard until the end. The never give up attitude of the Quadfathers was appreciated by the crowd and by the members of the Shock Exchange. The Quadfathers look forward to round 2 against NYSE at the Empire Skate Showdown in August.

At 6:30pm, The Quadfathers will take on the national champions the New York Shock Exchange, followed by the Long Island Roller Rebels vs Lehigh Valley. It's going to be a fun night of roller derby. Come on out and share the excitement:)

On April 2^nd, the Quadfathers took part in a historic bout with our brethren from Albany, the Capital District Trauma Authority. Not only was it the first ever bout between two New York based men’s teams, it was also the inaugural bout for the CDTA. Along with a rather large contingent of fans, friends, and family, the Quadfathers made the 90 minute trek East to Albany to play in the first bout of a roller derby double-header, followed by our sister squad, the CNYRD All-Stars vs the Albany All-Stars.

In front of a raucous and boisterous crowd at the jam-packed Washington Street Armory, the CDTA jumped out to an early lead, forcing the Quadfathers to play catch-up from the beginning of the first half. Through excellent jam management (assisted by bench/jam coach Tom-A-Hawk) and teamwork, the Quadfathers battled back to take a slight edge near the fifteen minute mark. As the hits and physicality increased, the CDTA took an approximately ten point lead into the halftime break, after a disputed jam which saw Die-Lon unable to jam after it was alleged he left the track before the starting whistle.

In the 2^nd half, the hits and action continued to escalate. Unfortunately for the Quadfathers, so did the amount of penalties and along with that, the CDTA’s lead. The Quadfathers were able to cut into the deficit near the end of the 2^nd half, but the lead proved to be insurmountable. The final score was 110-77 in favor of CDTA.

While many were disappointed by the final result, regardless of who you were cheering for, the crowd was treated to 60 minutes of hard-hitting, fast-skating, men’s roller derby action. The MVP for CDTA was Wellen Dowd #72, and Peach #27 from the Quadfathers was given the same honor. Both MVP’s received the infamous and wonderful golden cup (the athletic supporter kind) trophy.

The Quadfathers as a team would like to congratulate CDTA on winning their first bout ever, and look forward to continuing the battle for Upstate New York men’s roller derby supremacy when the CDTA will visit JFK Arena in Rome on July 30^th.

The Quadfathers also would like to congratulate our sister team, the CNYRD All-Stars for the victory following our bout, and everyone involved with the bout for being such gracious hosts. We look forward to returning that favor as well when they visit in July.

The Quadfathers will be at CNYRD’s upcoming recruitment/openhouse events on April 6^th from 7pm to 10pm and April 9^th from 10am-12pm for any and all interested skaters, regardless of skill level or experience. Both events are held at JFK Arena in Rome, NY. This is a chance to come meet the Quadfathers, talk about the program and upcoming season, see some examples of drills, and even lace up some skates and strap on some pads (we provide!) and try out some skating. Both of these dates have NO COST … they are 100% free.

Next up for the Quadfathers is a bout with the New York Shock Exchange on May 7^th in Long Island

NEW INFO ADDED:

We are opening the doors for interested new recruits to the world of men's roller derby. No skating experience is necessary. Come meet some of the guys and get some info, or throw on some skates and loaner pads and give it a try in a no-pressure environment.
The ladies of CNYRD have been kind enough to allow our interested new guys who are in need of training to attend their upcoming new skater classes, which will be Wednesdays 7-10p and Saturdays 10a-12p from April-July. We can go over costs and expectations at the open house.
Got skating experience already? Come get evaluated and you might be able to jump right into regular practices.
Regular Quadfathers practices are Saturdays 12-3pm, with the possibility of a soon-to-be-announced weeknight coming up.

On Sunday March 13th, The Quadfathers took to the road for a closed door bout with the Burlington Bombers men's roller derby team. Skating were:

Special thanks to Itty Bitty Bastard and Cat Scratch Beater (also both of CNY Roller Derby) for helping us out with our impromptu merch table.

The event was run as a fully staffed normal bout, and was held at the Sports and Fitness Edge, a multi-use sports facility in South Burlington which also sponsors the Bomb Quads league. As one of the Bombers guys put it, referring to the rubberized athletic floor for roller skating, "It sucks the soul out of you!", and he was 100% correct. While juking and fast lateral movement was a pleasure, any endurance we thought we had going in was quickly zapped out of us, legs first:)

The Bombers pulled out to an early lead for the first few jams as we got our bearings and developed some strategy.

At the half the score was still tight, with the Quadfathers only leading by around 14 points.

The second half started with 3 Quadfathers players already having accrued 3 minors each, and so Slay West used some strategic poodleing in order to get penalties cleared without suffering huge losses to short lineups. The Quadfathers quickly pulled out another 30 points into the lead, and then stayed well in the lead for the rest of the game. The final score was 156-64.

Big thanks are due to the Bomb Quads’ ref and NSO crew for recruiting all kinds of help to fill out the staff for this scrimmage. There were officials from the Bomb Quads, GMDD (good seeing you again Starslayer!), Plattsburgh, Central VT, and New Hampshire (someone correct if we’re wrong or missing anyone, please!). Officiating for a bunch of loudmouth guys who also ref is always a challenge, and these girls and guys truly did a good job of holding it together and keeping things under control.

We were also covered on the local news, thanks to Annie Cockledeux of GMDD. Thanks Annie! You can see the recap here.

We all had a wonderful time and the Bombers were great hosts. We hope to face them again this season and with any luck we can convince them to come down to Utica to fill our 8/13 home double header with CNY taking on GMDD…..NY vs VT battle royale!

On Saturday 2/26/11 The Quadfathers were happy to host CNY Roller Derby's 'CNY All-Stars' travel team for a scrimmage during our practice time. The scrimmage was made extra interesting by the fact that each team had the other team's coach competing (Die-lon and Slay West).

The final score had the Quadfathers 66 to CNY All Stars 141.
The score stayed pretty even throughout the first 5 or so jams, but ultimately penalty trouble killed the Quadfathers as we gave up 30+ points in 2 power jams and then continued to accrue penalties while the All-Stars skated very very clean with almost no penalties. However, our goals of enhanced teamwork and pack awareness were definitely met and it was a very good learning experience.

We're excited to announce that on Saturday April 2nd The Quadfathers will take on Capital District Men's Roller Derby's Trauma Authority as part of a double header event with Central New York Roller Derby's CNY All-Stars vs the Albany All-Stars. Albany has been packing the house at the Washington Ave Armory for their bouts, and this one is going to be crazy. If you havent been, the venue is a great place to watch a bout. We foresee a huge crowd, so get your tickets in advance! (via Ticketmaster.com)

This is the public debut of men's derby for the capital district (which is enough reason for you ALL to go, riiiiight?!?!?), along with a long standing rivalry between Albany and CNY for upstate bragging rights after a nail biter 1 point game at last year's Empire Skate Showdown.

So please come out and cheer on all the boys as we help show the city of Albany what men's derby is all about!!

The Quadfathers are excited to announce that Slay West #13 of Central New York Roller Derby is now coaching the team. Slay is the Coaching & Training chair for CNYRD, along with the captain of the Blue Collar Betties, and has years of experience in team sports. Plus in 'real life' she's an athletic trainer and god knows we can use someone with medical training on board with the way we play ;)

Slay will also have some guest helpers from CNYRD coming in to show us some moves, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have someone with her experience help us learn to play as a team and push ourselves that extra mile.

The Quadfathers are looking for new skaters!
Already skate? Great, you sign a waiver and we can jump you into practices anytime and learn-as-you-go. We've got loaner gear and skates available for you to try it out.
If you decide you like it and want to stay, dues are $20 per month and insurance costs $45 for the year.

New to skating? Most of us were too! We are excited that CNY Roller Derby is once again allowing us to have our new skaters jump into their very well organized new skater training class. We will be announcing dates soon, but it will kick off with a meet-and-greet, open skate night at CNYRD's (and our!) soon-to-be-announced new home space in Utica sometime in late February. Following that, there will be new skaters classes Wednesday nights from 7-9 and Saturday mornings from 10-12. During the time you are part of new skater training, you pay $30 per month to CNYRD for their training. A Quadfathers rep will be at most new skater practices to help out ans answer questions.

The team practices Saturdays from 12p-3p, and new skaters are encouraged to stick around after the 10a-12p practice and get to know the team, help out with drills, and watch practice.

We have an exciting season shaping up, so get in NOW!

Practice SATURDAY 12-3pm in Utica

The Quadfathers begin their off-season practices this Saturday 9/25 from 12-3pm at the gym in the Utica Center For Development (former YMCA), 726 Washington Ave, Utica, NY.

Guest skaters from other leagues are welcome to attend and skate, providing you have passed WFTDA minimum skills assessments and have competed publicly. All guests must sign waivers. All gear is required. Bring a black and a white shirt. Names and numbers are not required. Guests are expected to bring $3 each to help cover practice costs.

Guest refs/NSO's are welcome (with prior clearance) to attend free of charge. We have no lane for outside pack refs in the gym, so must be comfortable with inside pack and jam ref duties

Be there AT noon if you want to get in. Once we head up to the gym the building door gets locked.
There are rental skates and loaner pads available for a small fee.

Spectators who are interested in becoming new members are welcome to watch. Other spectators are discouraged due to safety issues from the room size. Children must not be inside the gym during practice and must be accompanied by an adult over 18 at all times.

This Tuesday 9/14 from 7-10pm CNY Roller Derby will host an open house/ meet and greet recruitment event at JFK Arena in Rome NY. Many of the Quadfathers will be on hand to answer questions about men's derby also. Since it's a CNYRD event, usage of loaner skates and pads will only be allowed if they are not needed by the girls (so its unlikely you're going to get to skate unless you bring your own stuff)

This is a GREAT time to come meet the team and pick up some information. If you are a new skater looking to get involved in men's derby, we have a class starting Tuesday 9/21 and running for 12 weeks on Tuesdays from 7-10pm. There are already a handful of guys signed up for this class, so its a good group to join. This will be the last chance for new skater training in 2010. The next new skater class will start in Jan-Feb 2011.

Experienced skaters are welcome to join any time by passing a skills assesment.

Bout Recap, 8/14/2010

On Saturday August 14^th 2010, The Quadfathers hosted the Connecticut Death Quads at JFK Arena in Rome NY. This was the debut bout for the Quadfathers, the first men’s flat track roller derby team in Central New York.

The Quadfathers faced an uphill battle taking on the veteran Death Quads in their very first bout. The Death Quads quickly jumped all over the inexperienced Quadfathers taking a 17-0 lead. It wasn’t until the 6^th jam that the Quadfathers got on the board, when jammer Die-lon was able to put up 6 points for the home team. It wasn’t until the eleventh jam though that the Quadfathers seem to get settled in. Funk Roll Brother pulled off a big jam grabbing a grand slam and putting up 8 points. This started a 21-6 run for the Quadfathers over a seven jam span. The Death Quads answered right back with a huge 20 point jam by Circle Jerk and ended the half strong a few jams later with a 76-33 lead by the Death Quads.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Quadfathers team take to the track determined to claw their way back into the game. The Death Quads came out just as strong though and increased their lead to 51 points by the 7th jam of the second half. Finally in the 8^th jam was the spark the Quadfathers needed. Rebel Whithout A Pulse put up a big ten point jam. This was followed by big scoring jams from Monster Assault, TOM-A-Hawk and Funk Roll Brother allowing the Quadfathers to finish strong. The second half was definitely the Quadfathers' game, as they outscored the Death Quads 58-33 from the 8th jam on.

In the beginning of the second half, a serious injury to the left wrist of XS'V Force #71 of the QF's caused a slight delay in the game as EMT's and ambulance paramedics responded. We're happy to report that Force will be OK, but his arm/wrist is broken in 3 or more places and he's got quite the cast on now. Force gets the trooper award of the night for going to the ER and actually making it to the after-party for drinks!

In the 14th jam Fro Serious #1819 of CTDQ was expelled for gross misconduct after being called on 2 consecutive majors for a block with two feet off the ground and then insubordination on the way to the penalty box. In the 16th jam Double Oh No #00 of CTDQ was expelled for gross misconduct after he hit Die-lon #315 of QF's with a major back block that the refs considered intentional and well after the end-of-jam whistle. Following this penalty, Beastro #1718 of the QF's was expelled for gross misconduct for fighting, and Circle Jerk #19 of CTDQ was expelled for gross misconduct for swearing and spitting at officials.

In the end the Death Quads' early lead was simply too much for the Quadfathers to overcome and the game ended with a final score 122-96.

Just for the sake of our fans' information, both teams were on friendly terms off the track after the game, and amends were made between feuding parties. Roller derby can become heated and it doesn't mean that we wait for each other in the parking lot to throw down......it just means sometimes we do things we wouldn't in everyday life. Sorry if our little skirmish offended anyone, and a HUGE THANK YOU to our ref and NSO crew for taking our crap. It is the HARDEST thing to do in roller derby to ref a game where there are a great number of refs playing, especially when those refs can be dicks like us. Thank you all for putting up with us and remaining professional and composed.

Saturday August 14th 2010 is going to be a big day for roller derby in Rome NY.

The doors to JFK Arena open at 4pm.
At 5pm,The Quadfathers take the track in their first full-length bout versus the Connecticut Death Quads. If you liked what you saw on May 8th in the men's scrimmage we hosted, you will LOVE seeing real team-on-team men's roller derby action.

At 7pm, the ladies of CNYRD's Utica Clubbers will take the track versus the CT Rollergirls' mixed A&B team. CNYRD is SOOOOO excited to be sharing the track with the CT Rollergirls, who have been some of our biggest proponents, helpers, and mentors both in building our league from the very beginning, and in the process of being a WFTDA apprentice. We look forward to sharing the track with them again (and showing them all that we've learned muahahaha! :)

After almost a year of travel planning CNYRD is thrilled to have a special guest for this bout, all the way from The Romsey Town Rollerbillies in Cambridge UK, our leopard and zombie green friend, Trash Gash.
