History/About Us

The Quadfathers were founded in late 2008 by Grambo, who at the time was simply a ref for Central New York Roller Derby. Luckily CNYRD lent a lot of support early on to the idea of men's derby and allowed the few guys involved at that time to recruit at their events and invite interested guys to come skate at their practices to try it out.

Until mid-late 2009, the team was a loose conglomeration of refs from CNYRD and various friends who could skate. Starting in mid 2009, WOO, grambo, Die-lon, Monster Assault, and Beastro began to travel to participate on compilation teams around  the Northeast whenever the opportunity came up, and throughout the year our guys were lucky enough to travel and skate with members of CT Death Quads, Pioneer Valley Dirty Dozen, NY Shock Exchange, and Harm City Homicide and start networking to build our team. By late 2009 The Quadfathers had a roster nearly capable of competing and began planning for the 2010 debut season.

In March 2010, Die-lon and grambo attended the Men's Derby Conference (MDCIII) hosted by Pioneer Valley in Holyoke, MA and started to make arrangements for the 2010 season. They were also lucky enough to network at this amazing event with derby guys from all over the country, learn a ton about the sport, and sell the very first run of Quadfathers' now slightly infamous 'Think Outside The Box' tshirts.

2010 was The Quadfathers first season of competition as a team. We hosted a mixed teams scrimmage on May 8th featuring skaters from all over the Northeast USA, and our first team vs team home bout vs the CT Death Quads on August 14th 2010. We played our first away bout as a team that October vs  Mass Maelstrom.

The Quadfathers entered into 2011 with one goal in mind- Play as much as we can and satisfy the requirements to become a member league of the Men's Roller Derby Association. On June 27th 2011 we satisfied that goal and became a full member league of the MRDA.

In 2012, The Quadfathers played host to the innaugural Mohawk Valley Cup tournament, bringing together 8 MRDA teams for 2 days of all mane's derby. This event has quickly grown in reputation to be one of the mainstays of the MRDA regular season competition.
